Angular mug, white glaze
Angular mug, white glaze
Dimensions: 11 H x 8.2 W
(Dimensions may vary very slightly between pieces received)
A hand thrown and turned angular mug, coated in a white feldspathic crackle glaze, fired in a reduction atmosphere to 1290ºC. These white mugs change hues so subtlety throughout the kiln, some are a pure ice white while others, where the reduction wasn't so strong, have a brighter note to them. New shapes, complex with carved handles and delicately thrown bodies, due to the weight of the handle pulling on the thinly trimmed body, some of these cups have slightly undulating rims.
Each pot is handmade, glazed and fired, so there will be slight differences between those pictured and those received, in terms of surface and dimensions—they’ll be almost identical but, these differences are what I strive for in my work, so each piece has a sense of individuality. There can be specks of iron and bronze, (copper), in my work, that appear arbitrarily. The pot you receive may have more or less of these.
These pots are dishwasher safe and food safe, although please take care, washing by hand is the best option. All my pots are made with a high iron content clay body that is heavily reduction fired. This means that sharper edges can be susceptible to chipping if they’re bashed so please handle your pots with care. I personally always hand wash my handmade pottery and tend not to use them in microwaves. Remember, this isn’t mass produced factory ceramics, each pot is individual. Additionally, crackle glazes like this can stain naturally overtime with liquids such as tea or coffee. The pots themselves are highly vitrified and there’s nothing toxic or dangerous that can leach out from the crackle glazes. This is simply a byproduct of having such surfaces and you’ll find that crackle glazes, or crazing like this, can appear in wood fired pots, soda fired pots and salt fired wares too.
