Set of three medium jars, oxidised glazes
Set of three medium jars, oxidised glazes
Dimensions, each is approximately: 14.5 H x 7.5 W
Here’s a very special group of my favourite jars from my past three firings. Each is partly oxidised, it’s this that creates the flash of warmth across one face of them, there’s a white jar and a pale green jar, both coated in a feldspathic glaze, finally there’s a mossy green glaze that’s half yellow. The pale green piece has a beautiful red spot on it, created by bronze, and the copper it contains. I almost didn’t want to let that one go. All are made with a high iron stoneware clay body and they’ve been reduction fired to cone ten, 1290ºC.
These pots are dishwasher safe and food safe, although please take care, washing by hand is the best option. All my pots are made with a high iron content clay body that is heavily reduction fired. This means that sharper edges can be susceptible to chipping if they’re bashed so please handle your pots with care. I personally always hand wash my handmade pottery and tend not to use them in microwaves. Remember, this isn’t mass produced factory ceramics, each pot is individual. Additionally, crackle glazes like this can stain naturally overtime with liquids such as tea or coffee. The pots themselves are highly vitrified and there’s nothing toxic or dangerous that can leach out from the crackle glazes. This is simply a byproduct of having such surfaces and you’ll find that crackle glazes, or crazing like this, can appear in wood fired pots, soda fired pots and salt fired wares too.
